He wasn't her daddy but he felt a small but of responsibility and concern for her. Listening he let out a low whistling." I try visualizations but they only seem to work when I’m in a clean zone." She immediately thought of her clean room at her apartment. She wished she was there right now. Sadly she was an angry basket case but she was not a coward. She faced each day knowing full well that she might not make it home in one piece physically or mentally. But its what she did. She knew that there were good cops everywhere or mostly everywhere yet she felt that she had to pull her weight.
She bit back her bile at what she had to say. Moving closer without touching she swallowed hard. “Thank you I’m willing to try almost anything. And sorry.”

Leo watched her and then nodded she was a whole basket of trouble but at current she was his basket. She also seemed fairly well meaning. He'd gotten a bit during their exchange.
His spine ached begging for a strech, he'd never tell anybody but he did yoga most nights to help his centering and calm. he'd had to skip it last night and now he felt it. Hand on his back looking the old man for a minute " you and I are ok..just don't try and be a hero. If its bad we can work out a non touch based tell that only I know so I can give you a couple to compose if needed. Like to duck away or just count in your head."
He knew she needed to have some resemblance of having her stuff at least a bit together and that would help." I will make my call later see what he can do, mean time we can just focus on getting eyes together for the resturant and then I'll be ready for tonight "
He figured that was it that they didn't need to pick at it any more and thus proceeded to strech almost backward over the low backed office chair. His spine in a chain of crackles releasing and his sigh of pleasure audible.

It wasn’t peace it was armistice and the offer of aid. Any help would do really. If she could just get out of her way. Even with the cease fire being called and plans of working better together part of her mind was worrying at the why. Why was he willing to try? Most chalked her up to a lunatic, drunk, or druggie and left it at that. Simply another department lost cause. Few guessed she might be a ten-ninety-seven. Fewer still saw that as anything more than a combination of all the above. He himself was one so she got the initial willingness but willingness usually meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. Maybe it was a generational thing she supposed and did the smart thing kept her mouth shut on the subject for now.
" I like the idea of working too much to be a dead hero. That’s more old school thinking…" She teased trying to lighten the mood. She wasn’t looking forward to what she was sure going to be some few nights in the car alone, together.
Nodding as a plan came to mind. She said, " How about I head over now and get a jumpstart as we are technically on the clock while you work things up. "

He chuckled at her jab and shrugged as if to say yeah I am old and? Brow hiked" um sure maybe it will help to have a presence"
Some alert popped up on his desk monitor." We got our servalance warrant aperantly ththat name triggered something. We can wire for sound. Can you place them or would that cause issues?"
He'd do it if he needed to.

She sighed at the comment that the warrant came through. That meant that they were officially on the clock. She glanced at her watch which as her fortunes were was also a talisman. It was a protection charm she’d managed to cleanse break down and cleanse again it kept ticking so she thought she was onto something. " I’ll distract, you plant; come on time to take my senior life partner for a walk."
She waited for him to gather his things as she repacked her cleaning supplies and slipped her syringe back into the cooler and insured her desk was as clean as possible. Walking around the desk she insured that all of the surveillance traps she’d set were in place.
" Alright Easy Rawlins its time to go."

He raised a brow then laughed full out" ohhh you got jokes huh sommore..queen of comedy"
He mock shuffled a few steps then straightened up" long as i can watch matlock and have prune smoothie "
He was actually deceptively fast perps underestimated him alot and git surprised when they were eating pavement after he took them down. Listening and recording devices gathered and button sized cameras with battery packs.
Out to her vehicle as he'd ubered and a squad car would have to many touched surfaces.

She laughed. It was a real laugh and she felt bad because of it. She rarely laugjed or smiled with any real emotion. It showed her yet again how empty she really was.
She wasnt at rock bottom but she was close. Now she could brace for impact or try to pull up. She wasn't sure which she preferred and just swallowed choking off the laugh and all the thoughts that went with it.
Makimg it to the car she did her best to not visibly flinch when he got in. At least he hadnt asked to drive. She knew as a touch sensitive hed be as averse as her to catching any tremors. He a least didnt mind wearing gloves.
The drive was blessedly short and she did her best to bottle herself up. She noticed they were open late. She hoped it was because of some catering contract she however knew it was because of the extortion.
"Lets go partner."

It made him sad that she killed the laughter. For a moment he got to see a carefree part of her the angry lines had lifted. He understood what she was giving upvwith him in the car. So he did his best not to touch more than the seat.
When they pulled up his mood darkened further seeing that the diner looked to be busier than it should at this time. He checked his guns swapping lead for silver. Then checking his backup hip sheath for the small thin silver blade. Truth be told though 8f he was down to that he was probably boned.
"Yeah..nurse aid and old man out for a meal as cover incase?"
Slipping out of the car and aware they might be getting watched throwing on the old man stoop an shuffle. Waiting for her to mive close but not touch as they approached the door.

She silently thanked him for his minimized existence in her space. She would still clean the shit out of the car as soon as this tour was over. But she was thankful all the same. The restaurant was way too busy. She paused moving as she nodded that she’d heard him. As he patted himself down she watched the crowd inside. None of the people there seemed like the same staff from earlier. She squinted trying to bring back the memories without the other emotional effluvium. She didn’t push her hardest or else she would have brought back the whole enchilada. Instead she got a bad feeling all the same. The staff was legit for the most part except the girl at the register doing nothing and the busboy with the sparkling clean uniform.
She kept from touching Leo but just barely. It was doubly dangerous to do so with him and her mental self-preservation kicked in causing her to waver inches from. “Wait,” she stage whispered. No one was within earshot but she still wanted as much quiet as she could muster. The two who stood out weren’t moving but something about them hummed and danced in her head.
"I don’t think it’s a good idea to go in yet…" If they were lycanthropes the tow of them were outgunned unless they planned on shooting first and testing later. One wrong move even with unskilled fighters gavethe fight six out of ten that either leo and she would be dead or several innocent bystanders. They weren’t here to fight but lycanthropes would smell them a mile away. She didn’t know for sure what sort of man Leo was but if he was as sensitive as her he cleaned and oiled his gun as meticulous as she did. The oil alone would attract their attention. The cleaner she used would attract them to her clothes and him wearing gloves inside would trigger them. All in all if they weren’t here to fight it would be a bad move to go inside. Yes officially they could claim ignorance but that wouldn’t go over as well as it could if some civilian got injured or KIA’d.

He frowned they couldn't leave the civilians inside woth the perps to be hurt. She was balking at the reigns and he thought it better them to stick together but, he couldn't drag her in.
Sighing deeply he whispered " I'm going to go in but if you worried call back up. I promise not to shoot less I have to but they need help."
He kept the act up" don't forget my pills and call my daughter "
As he pushed open the door gloved hand in one pocket the other quickly placed there." Evenin am I tp late for dinner dat dere egg plant curry was delicious"
They looked at him the owner who to his credit didnt give him away and the perps. The woman was definitely their runaway.

Immediately dumb she knew. Two of them against two infected in a closed environment someone would die and the odds they or a civilian would be the ones on the slab. Nodding she swallowed trying to not lashout. It was her default setting and that right now would not help anyone.
Waiting a beat she sighed counting to one hundred in one full exhalation. She slid back in snatching at the sqwauk box bent as she was no one inside would know what she was doing. She called for a car with instructions to back only.
Trailing in she kept her head down not trusting her face to betray anything initially. Her voice full of anger she slammed down one of the pill bottles she kept in her glove box. " You know this is dumb.” She said a little loud due her actual anger. “Your stomach is gonna be all sorts of upset after this old man and even with me having to be there doesn’t make it right so get what you’re gonna get so we can get you home.”

He got why she was mad but he just couldn't leave the civilians inside. He took the pill bottle" you bout the sourist woman I ever done met but fine don't get snippy.. don't want to miss Mayberry on tvland any way"
He used the pill bottle as cover to plant the recorder and cam as he" sneezed" bending over the table. Making sure the pack was well hidden. He sat up and said" you know what fine we can go back to that canned spaghetti stuff just so your happy "
Sliding out of the booth looking to the owner " I'll be back when its not so late and she aint so mean..leave me a plate by the back door"
Laughing and trying to make sure the owner got that they wernt leaving him. Shuffling toward the door hoping they made it out.

She nodded her ascent meeting his eyes. The initial step was done the trick now was to rein in the stprm of her being. Sighing audibly, "I'm sorry..." she began, "I can't cook. But its late and you know what this is going to do. Mayne something less savory. Something easier to swallow. Im trying okay?"

The suspects watched he knew thry did so he krpt his game going till she "helped him" into the car. Then he spoke." Ok we meed to pull off curcle out of sight let tge back up baby sit and go in if things get bad"
He put on the cans and pulled up the feed. Hearing loud and clean the female was suspicious of them but didn't dwell. She went back to trying to clean out the cash register and intimidate the owner.
The man was still scared but their presence had given him hope. So as his last real customers left. He told them that he was done paying them that if they wanted money they could get jobs.

Swallowing anger as if it were a meal cooked by culinary geniuses she helped him to the car. Careful to never touch lest they throw off energy they couldn’t hide or blame on gas. Once in the car she nodded saying “gotcha.” She was loathed normally to play second to anyone lest she was plotting getting rid of them. She gave herself credit for being a bigger person than she was normally. Normally she was snappish and a bit of a bitch ager was her first go to. But you could only play the same trump so often. Plus he’d offered to help her. Which was more than any of her connections ever did. Real help not decoctions of anesthesia. She smirked at the fact he was willing to go cowboy before she was. She’d had far too many years to be bred away from her normal impetus to ride to the rescue. Yet here he was doing what would have been her first instinct.
Silently she eased away from the curb circling the block easing into the alley that ran parallel to the restaurant. Parking she left the car running should they need it but switched the lights off. Unbuckling she grimaced as the owner gave the lycanthrope her just due. He was right but she knew respect or the illusion of it was the bread and butter of the community. She had been lucky enough to not have to rely too much on her Preternatural Studies courses but she hadn’t forgot. Looking at Leo as he heard the same information she did she shifted the car into drive and eased down the alley. It was on they both knew it the only question was whether they’d make in time to stop permanent damage.
