As Asa retrieved his drink from the bar and began making his way back to his table he froze. His face going pale with anger. The color was gone from him he was looking at a dead man. A beacon of power that had been spoken about. He’d not had time to suss out the rumors as the word was that he was in the Brooklyn area. Sadly, with so many wolves and so much ground to cover it was a chore he’d let slide. Sadly, now he as kicking himself. Counting to several hundred in his head he made a beeline his shields dropping with each step.
If the new wolf would come here and make no attempts of at least trying neither would he. A growl rumbling in his chest he closed hard and fast. Only slowing as he realized who was in the wolfs shadow. He’d made his bones with Lucchese family so the top brass and their families were very much known to him. He was no longer in that life specifically, but he was still a friend of the families. As such while he slowed he didn’t stop. Placing himself directly in the path of the unknown wolf.
" You don’t belong here. Not in the city. Not in this borough and not in this ceremony. You need to explain really quickly why you’re here." Each syllable carrying with the weight of the pack. Each syllable carrying sheer lupine rage. All of the signals a pack educated wolf would understand as the line was drawn. There would be no thumbing tradition. There would be no flipping the bird to each of the gathered leaders in this room or the city as a whole. No matter what this needed to be rectified now. Quick fast and in a hurry any belief that this was the most blatant act of disrespect that anyone person could attempt. Purposeful or not it was a smack in the face and one did not smack men.

Erick had accepted the kiss to the cheek and then had been near floored by Asa. Not rising to the commentary" yes she looks amazing"
As the other man walked away he shrugged to her then nodded agreement to finding their table as he lead Jesse to the seat mirroring Samuel in pulling out her chair. He had been a settling him self an about to put in a drink order when the soft growl and the smell of silver and gun oil worked into skin over time hit him. He turned to look and frowned but it seemed Asa their ulfric had gotten over there first. He looked at Samuel as to say.. so what do we do with this?
Not wanting to jump into this unless he had to but the man had been staying in his part of the city unvisited. So he felt a little at fault but would never admit that. He already had one wolf to worry over and didn't want another one. He also noticed most of the smaller groups got quiet but made no moves one way or the other most of the eyes in the place swiveled to watch the confrontation. He didn't know too much about the woman having not met her personally but knew of her as you had to know the people with power even the human ones.
Especially the human ones, because they had the most to lose in a preternatural fight. This was not smart on her part letting him come to this having not introduced himself to the ulfric even as a rouge. She was the one invited so if this went bad she would be the one to look bad the leadership didn't know him from Adam save rumors of the potential issue and weapon hoarding.

Not preternatural by any means but Abel and Severin knew people. So as the tension ratcheted up several hundred degrees they were at Samuel’s side. He standing as Erick exchanged a look with him. This was a ceremony designed to show what they as Dukes of the city could do and yet here was a matter that should have at best been taken care of in private. The rules were in place to keep matters such as this form occurring. Traditions were in place to preserve them as community and protect them form both internal threats as well as external. He didn’t roar nor growl but whether he agreed with the man or not Asariel was a chosen leader of the city and he would stand with the city.
Moving past Erick tapping him on his shoulder as sign that they need to stand together in this especially here in front of the leaders of the city. He moved to Asariel’s back his bass voice carrying no overt menace. “Perhaps we should step into the kitchen to discuss this matter in private gentleman. “ He noticed the other Duke as chosen by Eliachem responding in kind moving towards them from their various tables. “The scene has already been made so let us minimize its impact.”

Dante felt the power before he ever saw the Wolf coming at him like a bat out of hell. Just one look and Dante knew this was going to be trouble. Whoever this guy was, he looks like a complete fucking asshole. Dante usually doesn't deal well with them. Ever. Still, this wasn't about him. This was about protecting Celestra. Moving ever so discreetly to put himself between her and the hothead rushing toward him, Dante did the only sensible thing to do. He raised his hands in a sign of peace and surrender. He wasn't here to fight. He didn't want to fight. His only concern was Celestra's safety.
The moment the guy opens his mouth, Dante had to suppress the desire to take the bastard's throat. He didn't like threats. To him or anybody else. A quick glance around was enough to tell him that this guy was the Ulfric. He should have been able to tell by the fedora. Dante kept his voice as neutral as possible. "I'm not here to cause any problems, but you might want to switch to decaf, brother. You seem a little high strung. Or constipated. Hard to tell."
As the other two men approached, Dante hasn't made a single move since he was approached. He was still trying to shield Celestra with his body, but he didn't make a single aggressive gesture toward anyone. He hasn't even lowered his hands. He was TRYING to play by the rules everybody was so fond of. Sure, he was a bit of a smart ass toward the Ulfric. But that was just part of Dante's charm.
Hearing the second man speak, Dante could almost feel himself relax a bit. This was a leader. This was a man Dante could respect. Dignified, commanding, but doesn't feel the need to throw his weight around. Dante gives a nod of his head to both of the men that joined them, hoping perhaps that cooler heads could prevail. "I'm more than happy to do whatever you gentlemen request. I'm not here to start trouble. I'm here to look after my friend's safety, and rectify whatever wrongs I may have committed by being here."

Manners was a word that she did not believe Asa understood the meaning of. The man was the rudest most disrespectful person she had ever met in her entire existence, and she has met some lowlifes in her days on the streets and running with the MC crowd. He didn't want people to have manners around him. He needed to feel important, over compensating maybe, and have people bend at his will and bow down at his feet. That was not Jessie. That would never be Jessie. She always thought wolves were strong and powerful but this man just showed her that the wolves, at least in New York, were the opposite. He had to be single. Any woman that could be with him was a complete idiot. These were her thoughts though. Thoughts that were hers and only hers. Her shields always up. That smile always on her lips. Her aura always calm. You had to care about people for them to get a rise out of you. and when it came to Asa, she could care less.
She did however allow one thought to slide into her head. She didn't belong here. She would never be seen as more then trash to these people. She wasn't one to change for anyone and she didn't plan on starting now. Leaving New York sounded more and more like the best plan ever. Maybe she could call Sinister and head back to Colorado. That would be cool.
She moved with Erick and took a seat, smiling to him, even as she felt a chill touch her back suddenly and she looked around as if to find the cause. It wasn't a chill from the wind, but a presence she felt. When Asa got up and moved over to the newest arrivals it drew Jessie's attention as well. Her face to the way he was acting at what she was told was supposed to be a celebration was obvious. She was disgusted. This was a leader? He ran the wolves. It made her skin crawl to be any part of what he was. It was the person he was speaking to though that made her lean in a bit and squint her eyes. He looked.. no he felt so familiar. The woman remained quiet and did not get involved, but she did keep her attention in that direction. She had been being nothing but polite, nothing but respectful. She wasn't however being a puppet. If that was her down fall, then so be it.
Seeing Erick head in that direction with the man, Samuel, that she just met Jessie decided she herself needed a drink and she made her way toward the bar.
A woman who lived on the street and survived, went to the Army and almost died but survived. Always alone. Always searching but survived, just wanted to be part of her nature. Her culture. Her new world. And was still cast out. Its funny how the community wants everyone to be part of it, when some of the people do everything they can to make anyone new feel as unwelcome as possible.

Celestra had just arrived with Dante when instantly things seemed to go into the worst direction possible. Dante was protecting her, she saw that and took note. She also took note of the rudeness and would pay very close attention to any words and names that were said.
Celestra was a human with a lot on her plate, it was not her responsibility or problem to keep track of who talked to who when within the preternatural community or whatever they called themselves. Dante was her friend. She was invited to a get together. She asked her friend to join her. Their politics were theirs to handle. To think someone would instantly know that A needs to talk to B and hasn't so they shouldn't be brought anywhere public is ignorant. It is also ignorant to assume that anyone as new to the city as Dante, who had a personal matter to take care of first, would know who to talk to in the first place. Perhaps this would have been the proper place for him to talk to these people?
No. Apparently not. Apparently this was a place to pull out rulers. Celestra had one in her bag she would be more then willing to put out if people needed to start taking measurements.
Hearing Dante she arched her brow and leaned forward to whisper in his ear. "Are you sure you want to go with them?"

Monica sighed softly this was like a curse every nice evening she and Samuel had ever had someone had to ruin. She turned to look and assessed fast, she understood what and why. Not wanting to throw her weight into this unless her people or lion were in trouble. Tho he could more than handle himself she crossed her legs both as an I'm unbothered but also to put her weapons closer to hand. Looking to Yesenia she quirked a brow" how long have you been in New York?"
Making polite conversation like there wasn't craziness going on behind her. Not getting her answer she sighed letting the other walk away as this was a bit of a mess. She kept aware but so far was unneeded. It hadn't taken her long to sort out who their visitor was. She knew where he had been staying but unless he actually started dropping folk she had no real jurisdiction save maybe a check of his permits. No one seemed to know his name tho as the one he had checked in under she was sure was fake or if it wasn't was unreliable info.
It was the responsibility of any shifter entering a territory to know that areas leaders or at least a way to contact them. You didn't just waltz in and claim ignorance of the rules. The reason for Asa's reaction as far as Monica could tell was that he read the others behavior as avoidance and had been allowed plenty of time if having meant no harm to reach out and say so. People who liked information and could get it easily could ask near anyone who the Ulfric was. The leaders in this room had whole boroughs of people like themselves under their care and protection. They had to know who what where and why and if they didn't know what was going on in their part of the city bad things happened like the rouge that had caused a day's long manhunt and had killed several officers.
So now they were more careful and vigilant about, potentially dangerous entities in their space. Inclusive was one thing, but there were rules and expectations for that inclusiveness. Like being part of the country club or the mob rules you needed to follow. You wouldn't challenge a rival gang in their space by blatantly walking in then pretend you didn't know what you had done when they shot at you.
So far there was no shooting tho so that was good Monica could live with that.

It had almost been funny to her that she had been asked to not go. Sometimes his logic was just ridiculous and very much caveman thinking. Asa should have known she wouldn't stay home, she had received an invite after all.
After he'd left the humor she'd been in before turned to indignation and then anger that he had truly expected her to stay home. The man had another thing coming.
Having called for the car she went up to dress and redo the makeup she wore so that she matched. He wanted to send a message? That was fine, she could to. Slipping into the deep purple floor length dress that was simple yet elegant she grabbed the matching clutch and black pumps quickly finishing. Making her way downstairs no one tried to stop her they simply stayed out of the way. Sliding into the back of the car she was off.
By the time they reached the tavern she had reigned in the anger and hurt showing nothing but cool reserve inside and out. This was going to be a blast.
Stepping out she scented the wind smelling guns and people alike but that was Eli for you. Shaking her head she headed inside making time to stop and greet the vampire as they had not seen each other in a while.
She knew Asa would know she'd arrived shortly but that was his problem. Chatting for no more than a few minutes she made her way to the tables and other guests a smile on her lips.
She knew Erick from a previous meeting but the rest were relatively unknown. She was however surprised at seeing two different wolves there. From where he was she couldn't see her mates face but she could not mistake the tension in his body as he appeared to have squared off with the male wolf both the lion and Erick at his back. Her brow arched as she walked into the cluster fuck the unknown wolf had put himself in. She debated joining the group but went for a quick drink running into the female wolf instead.
Smiling at her her eyes warm "I haven't seen you before, are you new?" She was betting this was the woman Asa had mentioned. Reaching her hand out "my name is Jezebel it's nice to meet you."

He stood reluctantly looking at Jess and almost wanted to apologize this was not what tonight had been supposed to be about, but Samuel was right. They were supposed to be a united front. So he stood smoothed his suit jacket and walked flanking Samuel just a hair behind and to one side. Glancing quickly at the woman when the wolf pointed her out, They would not have harmed her that was not what this had been about but he just sighed softly. As a bear, this was not his thing at all he preferred yoga and snuggling. Granted when he had to get violent he was no slouch but the tension had him gritting his teeth.
Liking Samuels idea," yes please this can be sorted without further offense hopefully so that the night may continue on a better foot maybe?"
Catching sight of the Lupa he blinked and tossed her a brief wave but refocused even glancing quick to the ulfric to see if he had seen her come in. Waiting to see what would next happen he heard her speak" he will need to if this is to be smoothed over in any sort of manner, offense was offered by him coming into the city and instead of seeking the leader of the group he is kin to, hide from it, Most of us knew well when he came to town and could have come to pay him a..visit. Tho we didn't it is not our place to seek him out he knows the rules and would need to come to him even if he didn't want to be part of the pack"
Head nodded to Asa at the mention. hopefully, she would get that. Erick knew what her rep was her place in the strata that was new york. He hoped she would see it as why someone wouldn't make deals or do business where her ties might without asking permission to be there out of respect. The groups on occasional like Asa's were very much run like the mob hense his anger.

It was the craziest feeling in the world. Here he was being faced down by three separate alphas, all leaders he could only assume. And he didn't feel a single drop of fear toward any of them. He was completely unarmed, not even a pocket knife. Something that would usually be driving him crazy. Anyone of these men could probably take him easily in a straight up fight, something Dante tried his best to avoid at all costs. There was no such thing as a fair fight in his world. He would use whatever means necessary to survive. But still, he had the overwhelming feeling he could do this. Without any violence. He might end up telling the Ulfric to go suck a dick, but the other two seemed reasonable people. People at least willing to listen.
Hearing the whisper from Celestra, he grins slowly. It was the kind of grin that was equal parts playful and mischievous. He couldn't look innocent if he tried. "You know, it almost sounds like you're worried about me. This shouldn't take long. Have a drink. If I'm not back in a half-hour, call your security and go back to the car. I'll meet up with you later."
He gave Celestra a small smile before giving the three leaders his attention. His hands were still visibly up in the air, doing his best to show that he wasn't there for a fight. While he was waiting for one of them to take the lead of the situation, his eyes drifted over toward Jessie. He remembered that day like it was yesterday. He felt like he had failed her then, and even now, his attempts to make things right felt like a failure as well. Maybe he should have just stayed away.
It was beginning to feel more and more like the whole point of things in the city was to bow down and kiss everybody's ass. He knew the proper procedures of things, for the most part. He could almost feel the unrealistic expectations these people held, and it just made him sad. It was like he was supposed keep a little black book of every preternatural important person in the area. Dante didn't even know if he was going to stay in New York. He was trying to track Jessie down. Nothing more, nothing less. He wasn't even sure she was in New York until a couple days ago. This was his first real opportunity to jump through the proper hoops, keep everybody's asses from chapping.
He was trying to operate in good faith, but Dante wasn't going to be pushed around. By anybody. There was a difference between being willing to play by the rules, which he is, and conforming to the wills of others.

She was not meaning to be rude to the woman at the table, Monica, but she really needed a drink. A nod was given to Erick as he got up and she smiled to Monica. "Not very long. Excuse me for a moment." Was spoken before she had made her way to the bar.
At the bar she ordered herself a glass of Johnny Walker Black Label on the rocks with a twist of lime. When the glass was placed in front of her she took a sip of it as she kept her eyes to the group that had formed by the man. She was so lost in the moment, trying to figure out the familiarity of the man that came in that she had not even seen the woman sit at the bar, her voice taking her out of her thoughts.
Jessie looked to the woman and smiled, taking her hand and shaking it as she spoke softly. "Nice to meet you, Jezebel, I am Yessenia." She took in the womans scent and could tell what she was right away. She could also smell Asa on her as well. She had to wonder if this was going to just be another negative moment to add to her long list of them since she returned to the city, or if this was going to be a civil one, to add to her very short list of those.

Keeping an eye on the scene unfolding in front of them she did a quick once over of the female wolf next to her also noticing the scent of Erick, not that that was entirely surprising. She knew Asa had put his foot in his mouth a few times at their meeting though he hadn't been wrong about others. "So I hear you are now part of the sleuth? How is that going for you?" Truthfully Jessie was supposed to be taught by wolves not bears and frankly she landed that shortfall on her mate. Going by the feel Jez was getting off of her she was new enough to need guidance and his temper had screwed that over. "If you'd like some input from another female wolf or wolf in general feel free to ask Yessenia. I know your introduction to the Ulfric went to hell in a hand basket." Her eyes were twinkling as that had probably been just the tip of the iceberg.
Ordering a whiskey and receiving it she take a sip as she waited for something to happen and for Jessie to reply.

It was funny really in so very many ways. Simple direct and without equivocation. Succinctly put and no attempt at bullshit was taken so very many ways wrong. This jacakanape of a wolf behaved as if he had nothing to fear. As if this was a matter of perception. Asa was so very tired of assholes whose sole purpose was to flout rules and point fingers. Oh he didn't kiss my ass he has to be accepting of my bullshit because I have personality or I have fir. That's not the way things worked thats not the way any of it worked.
They were a community with rules because no matter how tough one believed themselves to be there were more ways to die being a lone lycanthrope than there were stories in the city.
So the jackass and his date wanted to claim ignorance. As any person could tell you ignorance was no excuse of the law. If anything it was all the more reason to become victim to it.
He would have d just dropped the guy where they stood but cooler heads would prevail. Especially as he felt Jez walk in on a wave of anger as bright as his own.
"Sure let's head to the kitchen. We can talk about asshats disrespect and why he thinks that shits okay." He said a smile dancing on his lip.

Erick was quite deft in his explanation so there was little for Samuel to say. No Asa didn't make it easy but that was not his role. He was the aggrieved party. There was no way to not see the wolves action as anything but rude. Especially reading his stance and body language. He knew what was expected and decided to not as a point of rebellion.
Samuel didn't like rudeness. It wasn't in him to accept it nor give it. Even when ending someone's life or actively taking something from someone he was never impolite nor rude. There was no need to be. Respect was given not because the other party deserved it but because he knew he did and wouldn't settle for less.
"Miss Genovese I believe as representative of the Cosa Nostra your table is there." He said motioning openhandedly towards her table.
Turning back more directly to the matter at hand. He motioned The new wolf to follow Asa towards the kitchen. It was a small walk as it were. Once they were inside he immediately began speaking. "Gentlemen perhaps we should begin at the beginning. You are?" He asked of the new wolf to get the ball rolling.
Addressing each other by name would make going forward whatever they decided so much easier.

As the men disappeared into the kitchen she shrugged and locked eyes with Abel. They had an accord which was very easy to understand, turning back to the other bear at the table and the rest as the dining room let out a collective sigh and went back to small talk and getting drinks. They were all still on alert but for the time being, it was business as usual. Glad that Jez had shown up and was getting on with the younger female wolf. She couldn't hear them but the body language and aura swirl pattern was interesting.
Her gin and ginger finally delivered she took a slow sip and answered, a question about how Christmas was. It was normal everyday day conversation and interacting save small changes and observations in the order of things. Glancing at the gold watch on her wrist disguised as a bracelet Samuel had ten more minutes to sort this or she was going in and chewing every one a new ass.
Just one normal date night with no drama was that to much to hope for?
