Detective grim had gotten herself as high as she dared and not by any drive to rise through the ranks. It was more a byproduct of her curse. She could see things that had happened from anything she touched and anything that touched her. It wasn’t sight in any way that was recognizable. It was always a jumble and it hurt something deep inside her. Her response was to use anger. Though again that was something she didn’t have control of. He ranger was her shield her sword and armor all rolled into one. It and her ever present abilities were why she had just in the last year seven different partners.
Major Crimes was a serious way to prove ones self. And she was usually the measuring stick. Or club as it were. Three of her partners went on to the Feds. One became a detective. Five retired one disappeared into the bowels of RPIT never to be heard of again. And lastly one offed herself when she realized Wyetta knew what she’d done in high school. Wyetta wasn’t going to rat her out even if there was no statute of limitations. Needless to say, she worked better alone and liked it that way. At least most days.
Standing frowning against the glare of the sun even with her sunglasses in place she looked on the crime scene. A seven man team had come through the bank by using a water saw on the back door. She knew she would hate herself but she reached into her inside pocket and grabbed the vial of pungent herbs that smelled like the dankest of weed. She uncorked the vial took a quick whiff and corked it as quickly as she could. Sadly it wasn’t fast enough as she caught one of the techs with dreadlocks begin to look around with this oh so shit eating smile on his face. She frowned harder as he tried to catch her eye and head nod like they were suddenly friends. Damn shit head she thought as while he was being comradely she pocket one of the spent shells the crew had used on the guards inside.
It was wrong but anyone callous enough to shoot an unarmed guard deserved the pain she would inflict on her self. The herbs usually took about ten minutes to counteract the decoction but anger could speed things along and pain. Turning as she acted as if she would be sick she ground the casing into the underside of her forearm. The copper biting flesh almost and beyond breaking the skin she’d bleed a little but nothing she couldn’t handle. She had a salve in the car that her connect promised would speed healing by ten or fifteen percent.
She was pretending to wretch while catching the tremors and visions trying to cipher through all the noise to find something she could chase. When it hit her the noise of it all and the pain. The pain the person who loaded this shell had done. The life of the guard there trying to pull her out of it. Then the other sucking her under. It was so much death too much pain and just a life not worth continuing. Then she saw it a thread. A thread to be pulled a way to find them. Swallowing hard she tried to keep her stomach but it ran like the wind away from her.
The contents of her stomach shot out of her splattering the floor the wall and her shoes. Getting to her feet she wasn’t sure how she went to pocket the shell casing and it hit the floor. She felt all the eyes on her but ignored them staggering out into the night. She mad eit to her car where she chugged two large belts of the decoction, a tums some gum and a mint. She was happily chewing with her window down to get some air while applying the salve. And her newest partner came over.
‘Hey Grim’, he said his accent making her ears bleed. Damn southern boys. He leaned in closer taking a whiff of all the mint in the air and the smell of moonshine. Sighing he pretended to ignore it. ‘Hey Grim, uh about the whole puking thang I gotcher back sister.’
She looked him square in the eyes not that he could tell with her sunglasses in place. “Don’t ever call me sister. Get off my car. I will meet you back at the precinct.” It came out almost as gruff and threatening as she meant it.
He responded like most men he felt threatened and tried to respond with implied violence he reached into touch her shoulder or clip her jaw she wasn’t taking a chance. She dodged shrugging away from him and stepped on the gas. She rocketed out of the parking spot right over his according to him three-hundred-dollar cowboy boots. She hadn’t meant to but she didn’t stop either.
She sped across the city not bothering to flash lights her plates said all she needed. She was at the strip club just as her prey was starting his shift. Part of her found it funny a scumbag beating up other scumbags who got out of hand. If only they knew how bad Murda Mike really was. She walked right up to him knowing where he kept his blade and taser. She was all smiles as she paid her cover then moved to Mikes right forcing him to to turn some as soon as he did she kneed him in the balls as hard as she could. The camera behind him would have seen her with her hands up. It also wouldn’t be able to see her behind his massive bulk. So she stepped back further as he seemed to lunge.
It got his attention like nothing else would and eh went to grab her. She almost allowed him to having misjudged his reach but instead she brought down her elbow into his wrists as hard as she could. She didnn’t hear a satisfying snap and knew he was as tough as he looked. Taking another step back she called out “Stop Mike!! NYPD.”
He unfortunately was an enraged bull thinking to get her back. He noticed the lack of back up and he charged. She stepped back drawing and firing all in one practiced movement. His momentum carried him right into her. She didn’t stop firing until her back and his bulk connected with the ground. She wasn’t sure how long she was out . But when she came to she was being loaded into the back of a ambulance. Her rig was with her which meant they considered it a righteous shooting. The chain of custody had to be maintained so they wouldn’t take it until she was at the hospital if at all.
They’d tear up his life and find what he’d been doing along with his role in the bank job. She smiled happily as the pain meds put her under. Until she realized she would be under. She couldn’t control her abilities if she was forced sleep. She began to panic just as darkness overtook her.
