Monica:
The crowd gathered in front of city hall officers in there dress blues some in regular uniforms. Podium set up and barricades to control the crowd. Monica was inside in one of the many bathrooms staring at her self in the mirror. This was not out of vanity or admiration this was out of a sincere urge to not go out there but instead slink off and pretend this never happened. What she had found in research the past day made her very nervous to be standing in the open sans vest.
Samuel had more experience with guns then she had originally thought his file came back with both mysteries a plenty and answers to some of her questions. The cameras along the route had been tampered with in his and his men's favor. She hadn't seen them but apparently they had been there and had made it easy to leave the hospital after a to brief exam and statement. To add to it his rivals the ones who had finger prints on things and even the DoA had records miles long from smuggling to arson and heavy arms. That was what had her in the bathroom in her dress blues and white gloves pacing the floor, this ceremony made her a clear target as to who had stopped the men on the train and if the rest of them wanted revenge all they would have to do is get it while she stood there shaking hands with the mayor.
She was now sure of what Samuel was as far as preternatural flavor but as a person she was still mostly clueless. She had figured the flavor out by seeing who his known associates were what potential family history she could find and most of those ties said lion. So there was that, she smirked it was funny in a way lions were prideful and dangerous in the wild. This man had shown some semblance of the wild counterpart with his little in shock stunt. Some how that comforted her and calmed her. Why she even bothered to keep digging was beyond her but her inner cop couldn't let it go. Focusing on tucking her honey blond bob behind her ear to put on her hat so hard that when the door was knocked on by her escort had she been a cat she would have been attached to the ceiling by claw just like in the cartoons. Clearing her throat and tugging her gloves on tighter she went for the door and stepped out.
Samuel:
The Samuel had ever liked pomp and circumstance. He while observant of a few personal rituals tended to stay no less than several arms lengths from any involvement in such affairs. Every such bit of ceremony he had been involved with turned out for the far worse. As such he’d paid far more than Abe was comfortable with and doubled the security around the perimeter. The police had their own security but in truth that was a joke as all it would have taken to do harm would have been one skilled sniper and a price tag big enough. As it stood the price on the detectives head was only large enough to tempt the lower rung read desperate criminals who wouldn’t have the startup capital to mount a decent action nor attain the supplies necessary to insure their escape. Samuel however had both and was not desperate so he’d made it known in no small way that if the Detective was harmed he would be pissed and retaliate as Exauda had in New Orleans.
Samuel didn’t like stooping to such histrionics but he would be remiss if he didn’t take precautions to protect the detective. He hadn’t thanked her for her help in extricating him from the fracas of the after action reports and hullabaloo. As such he stood at the edge of the gathered reporters and concerned citizens who’d been invited to witness the pomp and circumstance of the city of New York recognizing one of its heroes. Samuel held at his feet a bouquet of flowers large enough to feed a colony of bees for several years. It was also large enough to obfuscate his face should he need to fend off an overzealous photog.
Glancing at his watch he raised a brow at Abel it was show time the canned band had started and he hadn’t spotted the detective who had been most understanding and helpful. She was not with the other local dignitaries and honorees. He began scanning the crowd seeking any of her potential family members. As he thought about perhaps having Abel check for her she walked out taking her place on stage.
Monica :
With all due reluctance she had gone out side and inside her heart hammered. She opened her third eye which was fairly new to her, she'd been taking lessons online with a mystic who was teaching her how to see the auras that caused the tingle she felt that told her something was a preternatural. The different colors would tell her what they were if she could build her ability enough and learn to trust it. Looking out at the crowd she looked for her mami, and some of her siblings. Her sister and oldest brother were currently deployed so it was just her middle brother and she nodded to him quietly.
Then she felt him, he was there. Her gaze raked the crowd and near a huge bunch of flowers there he was. She smiled and gave him a nod as well but it was the barest of head movements, coming to attention as the mayor came to the podium and began his speech. It sounded like the drone of bees to her and she had a hard time focusing, taking slow breaths trying to stay calm and everything in her was saying run. Maybe she just, was nervous and didn't like being center of attention? The applause started as they gave her little old lady Jean a honorary award for courage in danger. she had pushed for it because it had been such a horrible ordeal. She never mentioned Samuel because she knew he'd decline.
Then more speech and they made her sound like rambo or something Monica couldn't help but wince, this was so very to much ridiculousness. Finally her name " Detective Monica Angel Davis of the Preternatural Crimes squad."
Flashbulbs went off and she stood frozen for a momen

Samuel stood and clapped along with everyone else. His applause was a good deal more heartfelt he’d assume. Aside from her family he was sure he was one of the few who had looked into her eyes and saw the ever present bravery there. He was curious as to her motivation for doing what she did. He knew there were other things he could be tending to especially as the would be hijackers were quite forthcoming with all they knew. It’d only taken a little persuasion; he’d expected to have to actually have to follow through. But he hadn’t and was a little let down that he didn’t have a chance to really make them break.
Pushing the next logical steps of insulating his business against those who would attempt to harm his interests aside. He would insure that the person responsible would rue the day. He would do so in a way that left them breathing but far more learned. Focusing his gaze on the Detective he raised the flowers as an overzealous photog began panning the crowd. He was not in the mood for such lasting reminders. As the photog moved on Samuel searched the stage marking those he would be speaking with soon. His gaze alighting on Monica he smiled handing the flowers and a small envelope to one of his assistants. They would make sure she received the items while he moved to the waiting car. Abel pensively behind the wheel. He was one of the best at what he did and that made him horribly paranoid. Samuel didn’t bother reading into his paranoia about today’s errands.
“We’ll wait here for a few moments longer she’ll either be along or she’ll call. Then we can tend to the cutout that was used. It will be fine we aren’t exposed.” Samuel said offhandedly as he retrieved the paper and began rereading the day’s happenings. New York was as ever busily chugging along lives beginning, lives ending, and places for rent. His gaze lit on an interesting proposal being put forth in regards to zoning. He would have to look into where that might lead.

They put the medal over her head then handed her the award she posed for the photo, she shook all the hands pointed in her direction. Softly sighing once it was all done and the band played as she walked down to see her family. They hugged her tight congratulated her and snapped more photos, then a man came up with an envelope and flowers. She smiled accepting them and looked around for Samuel but then noticed the envelope had traces of his aura on it. Ah ha, made sense.
She promised her mother shed come by the next day for lunch with the brood and thanked her for coming the whole way across the front of the steps more photos flashed. She opened the envelope and head tilted, well that was interesting. What the heck nothing better to do today they had given her a few days off, as a sort of reward but more so because they were also worried about her being in the public eye and a possible target. Crossing the street and coming to the car she knocked on the window carefully.
So buy a girl a drink?
She didn't really want one but what else did one say when making a half assed escape of the scene of such honor? They could even just sit and talk because she for sure had questions and she was sure he did. Taking off the hat and medal and gloves putting them all together feeling far to restricted.

“No, but I will spot you a bit of conversation…” Samuel said lowering the window. He wouldn’t keep her waiting so as to obviate his offer he opened the door. He could see Abel tensing up at the idea. For Abel cops of any stripe were to be kept at arms length or better. Samuel however had learned to keep his potential enemies close enough to feel the warmth of their skin. He didn’t see the detective as an enemy but her profession could be problematic if she looked too deeply or chased too many shadows in Samuel’s life. He didn’t think she would as while she knew he was a lycanthrope she hadn’t had an issue with him or his actions thus far. Even as he was careful to check his strength he was even more careful to insulate himself from the bulk of morally gray affairs in his life. He hadn’t had time to really look into the Monica Davis as a person but from the information he was able to suss out as an officer she was fair and competent.
“Won’t you take a ride lest we draw undue attention…” Samuel intoned removing his glasses and setting his paper aside. The Photog’s were still busy near the stage taking in the gathered dignitaries. If they left now no one would be any the wiser. Samuel preferred that even as Abel had taken pains to insure the car was as unremarkable as a raindrop in spring. All the same someone was bound to notice the good detectives absence soon enough. Samuel had learned to be even more circumspect when it came to denizens of the fourth estate. They could be tenacious and avaricious in attaining what they saw as a scoop. Especially in this day and age of instant coverage. No time wasted verifying sources or fact checking. Yes he was a little disappointed in the state of affairs in the journalistic world. Yet he still bought a paper twice a day every day and scoured the news outlets via the net when he had an opportunity.

She smirked softly and slid in smoothly when he opened the door. Brow raising at the drivers behavior , but not mentioning it. Waiting for the door to close then nodding about the ride having been careful not to inadvertently flash to much leg while she settled the navy pencil style skirt was a nuisance. Ankles crossed because that was all she could do then finally she looked at him. Debating if she should speak first or he should because, while she had met the occasional were in her line of work most of her interactions were when arresting some one or looking for someone. Never a chance for a sit down heart to heart, specifically with some one as obviously in a grey area of the law as he was.
Monica had't dug much further after her initial search because she simply had to much other crap to do if it wasn't going to solve another case on her desk she tended to put it aside until it came up again later or needed to be forgotten. Part of her wanted to delve into this world he seemed aware of, it made her think maybe as a preternatural officer it would be good to have an acquaintance with a member of said group of people. She was almost sure there were bigger fish to fry then him and maybe just maybe they could help each other out. She could, maybe help him put those bigger fish out of commission for a while legally instead of ..how ever he was doing it.
Re-tucking the loose hair behind her ear then looking at him with those honey colored eyes, the questions in them brimming but she was also aware of having let down her shields some and was getting peeks at his aura while trying not to poke at his power to much so he didn't get annoyed with her. She had a feeling that would end badly if it happened.

He spared a smile at her attempt at decorum as well as even silent she seemed to be all business. “This,” he said motioning with a gloved hand towards Abel, “Is my trusted man Friday he has been with me since before I came back to the states, Detective. Thank you for joining us.” Samuel then removed his glasses the introductions done well enough to hopefully have the detective as much at ease as he thought she might ever be until they hashed a few things out between them. Namely how they could be mutually beneficial to each other without mucking their businesses up. She a legal representative of the city of New York and he a businessman with diversified stock in multiple fronts. It could be a very tricky situation for them both if not handled with the utmost care. He planned to exercise all due caution while allowing her the room so as to not trigger her cop senses too negatively.
“Shall we have a bite to eat while you form the many questions I am sure you have about me?” He asked more of a statement than a true question. He knew that many cops were like soldiers in they ate when they could not knowing what the next few hours might bring or what waited just around the next corner for them. It was a philosophy not solely of those positions but a sound one all the same. He could guess at the nerves she might have and would do his best to assuage as many of her concerns as he could without betraying any confidences. It would be a tightrope of the finest silk. He’d had Abel scout and secure two locations for this meeting. Both would allow the Detective a quick departure should she feel the need while granting them a bit of privacy to really give voice to whatever she might need to ask.
Folding his hands on his lap he considered what it was he was potentially involving himself in with this Detective. He had the greatest feeling that she was unlike the others on his payroll. Her loyalties couldn’t be purchased with any currency save honesty. While Samuel never lied he also knew how to remain opaque. “If I may ask Detective Davis, how was it you can sense something so uniquely hidden to most as well as why don’t you have the usual prejudices that even most proponents of Lycanthropy as a disease have?”

Her lips pulled into a smile and she nodded in response to his offer of a bite to eat she might just have that drink after all, " do you like sushi?"
She wasn't making cat jokes, Monica actually really loved sushi. While that was sorted she picked a place of the two when Abel listed them and then felt the car move definitively like it now had more purpose as it had been moving but directionless before. Ankle flicking softly in her heels then she shifted in the seat looking him over as she tried her best to organize her brain when he asked her the question about prejudices.
She laughed gently but took a deep breath because this was a strange one. " I know you've heard of gifted humans, I would wager you even know a few of diffrent types but have you ever met an aura reader?"
Pointing to her self as if to say Ta-da, then waiting a beat for a reaction before going on. "As for how I feel about those with this particular lot in life I swore to serve and protect no where in the books does it say serve and protect unless they can turn into a what ever. Its that simple for me I see you as I see any one else by your deeds or miss deeds not who or what you might happen to be. Don't get me wrong there is definitive curiosity about what is like but other then that people are people and that to me includes vampires and were's"
Besides she had met far more monstrous people that had no excuse for it other then being mentally disturbed or just plan evil.

Samuel met her smile with one of his own dropping it as he spoke, "Not particularly, no. But I don’t mind. I am more of a fan of hardier proteins."
Nodding at her choice he smirked as he thought the secondary location would have served her better tactically. Closer to public transportation, both cabs and the train. He knew that she was even while extending a bit of trust competently aware of where they were and plotting an escape should the need arise. He appreciated that ideal. Trust but…
Sparing a moment he met her eyes. " I have actually. But their accuracy was an iffy thing. Shielding tends to throw them off. You don’t seem to have much doubt. Which tends to make me think that maybe you are more specifically attuned. Is that why you considered RPIT as your beat and excelled?"
Samuel paused quirking his head a s second as Abel raised the privacy screen. Samuel knew that meant business was afoot. He would allow Abel to handle it in the moment. He had an idea what it was in fact about. One of the Greek families had imported merchandise that the Exauda had placed a ban on. Recreational drug or not the effects were too dangerous to allow especially as it even had a small effect on Lycanthropes. "Most people believe lycanthropy is just evil given form. Do you like Cognac?"
Samuel asked knowing that at such ceremonies the honored usually receives time off to celebrate.

She explained that she also had ESP they tended to feed each other and shielding for her was just to avoid getting the heebe jeebee's when trying to aim a gun. Telling him that when she saw auras she saw color yes but sometimes they also took shape, so a human could have a blurry wolf shaped aura in what ever color and that was more of how she figured things out. Also agreeing that the reason she had been drawn to the division she was in was because of her gifts and need to use them with out calling to much attention to her self. The collars she had else where caused drama and she liked under the radar despite her need to be a good cop.
She also noticed the partition but her thoughts about it were different she thought it meant that he was giving them privacy for some sort of illicit activity he expected to happen. Which made her brow go up before he spoke again " well most people are flipping idiots so there you go. I'm more a vodka girl my self but if your buying"
Her fingers went to the buttons on her shirt undoing two of them, propriety be dammed it was to warm. She caught his gaze and smiled." So you were expecting the train to be hit I'm guessing then which means you weren't there by chance, also means you aren't as helpless as you lead my colleagues to believe."

Samuel listened to Monica and averted his gaze as she undid her top two buttons. He wasn’t a prude quite the opposite, actually. But he didn’t prefer to muddy his intentions by allowing that portion of himself to shine through. Maybe after but in the now that wouldn’t be prudent. In fact it would be as careless as could be. Removing a stray piece of fluff he smoothed his pants leg back out. Turning to her once more meeting her gaze and take her in from shoulder to brow he went on.
Samuel considered how best to answer her question. Yes he expected something to happen just not on the train. He expected more than one person but not six. He also hadn’t taken into consideration the would be jackers disregard for any collateral damage. It would be hard to answer the whole of the question without revealing far too much in advance of truly gauging her. "That’s a fairly astute assumption. The answer is a little more difficult to answer honestly." Stroking his chin with his forefinger and thumb he looked once more out of the window before going on. They were nearing their destination.
Her fingers went to the buttons on her shirt undoing two of them, propriety be dammed it was to warm. She caught his gaze and smiled." So no I wasn’t expecting the train to be hit. I was prepared as well as I could be. And no I am nowhere as helpless as I pretend in mixed company. Batman has Bruce Wayne and I have the image of an out of shape, Buppy businessman. Too busy with his newspaper to even be addicted to his phone."

She smirked at his comparison and had noticed he looked away when she unbuttoned. Chivalry was not dead it seemed, but it was cute of him to protect her modesty or lack there of. When they arrived she looked at him and asked one more question in the car" Ok fair enough but what is it you were protecting or can you not tell me that? It had to be something for them to come with six well armed men I'm just saying."
She slid out of the car and took her items with her carefully balancing them and wishing like hell she had remembered to bring a purse today instead of just a belt strapped wallet thing. Walking in to the place looking around carefully and then letting the hostess lead them to a booth that would allow them privacy but still let her see the front door in case. Settling her self ankles cross again and waiting to see if he would answer her . Then looking through the menu and ordering an apple martini to start with.
Her fingers traced the lines of the medal idly, it was so strange to be sitting here right then getting answers to questions but still having more of them bubbling up as she learned more about him.

Allowing Monica to slide out of the car first went against his nature he should have moved first to keep her shielded should the need arise. He fought his urge to do so as he had been told that such behaviors could be viewed as a show that the other party was weaker. He would tread lightly with the detective it was clear she was the very definition of a modern strong woman. He wanted their time and potential future to be an amicable one.
Taking to the sidewalk behind her he replaced his glasses on is brow. Slumping his shoulders some and moved to carry her things for her, but thought better of it. Scanning the streets out of habit he watched her do the same. Moving alongside of her he opened the door moving behind her as he double checked the security of the place. Not that he doubted Abel in the least but survivors traits hard won over the year would not be undone so easily. "I wouldn’t initially if asked previously said it was worth the efforts of such a squad of men but perhaps I undervalue what sports performance might mean to concerned parties."
Sliding into the booth he waited until the waitress had come and gone before continuing. Having ordered a Manhattan he knew it wouldn’t take long so he busied himself reading the menu. As she returned with their drinks he waited as Monica scanned the room once more informing the waitress that they’d need another moment or two.
Once alone he cleared his throat sitting a little taller and truer in the seat. “So, as to whether I can tell you a thing there is nothing I can’t tell you there may be some things it would be prudent to allow you to find out on your own or remain completely silent on as some secrets are not mine to tell. But I did say you can ask me anything and I meant it.” Glancing once more at the menu he said, “I think I will go with the New York Strip this seems like a celebratory moment…” Sitting it back on the table he raised his glass in toast, “To new honest friendships…”

She caught what he said about sport performance and knew doping in sports was a big problem. There had been a time in recent years when people had been drinking vampire blood trying to get an edge it had done nothing for their game but it created problems with the kisses and, occasional deaths when the vampires felt the humans had gotten to greedy and killed some of them for the blood. The whole thing was a horrible mess, they occasionally found bones or fragments in odd places that could be traced to the original kills.
Mulling that and nodded " People are serious around here and else where about winning no matter the cost so perhaps you are right."
Once they were alone again she listened again and her brow hiked, she could understand him not wanting to get him self wound to tightly into an investigation so that made sense. Though he seemed to skirt the issue he was actually more honest with her then she had ever expected and she liked that he was trusting her what ever amount he needed to so this would happen. Though it made her wonder just what would have to happen in return for such honesty. Monica was about to answer when the waitress returned and he ordered the steak, she smiled at his words and ordered cedar plank salmon with almonds and roe. It was basically salmon caviar in a sauce over a steak of the very same fish with roasted almond slivers. It came with a side of micro greens lightly dressed.
Her gaze sparkled for a moment in amusement but lifting her glass and nodding " To new honest friendships and their infinite potential"
She wanted to show him that as good of a cop she was she was also a very practical person who knew that sometimes life wasn't so black and white, sometimes you needed shades of grey to make a more clear picture.

A clink of glass was a ceremonial bit of nothing in modern parlance but to Samuel it held a weight and a promise. He smiled inclining his head as he did so. “Okay Detective as we have a few moments of absolute privacy. What is your next question I believe we have moved sufficiently past the point of no return and we are of an accord that I will not lie to you even if that would be the easier option.” Taking a sip he mulled over the taste of his drink. Savoring this moment of calm in the island of chaos that was modern life in New York.
Samuel continued speaking by way of giving her time to collect her thoughts "That I am beginning to see. I am fan of rugby but I wouldn’t kill no matter how bad things are out on the pitch for my team. Of course the monies to be won while significant are nothing compared to what is made on baseball and other decidedly American sports."
He considered a thought that had just occurred to him. Most such arrangements required a financial aspect. He knew she was above that fray and had not even allowed the thought to take root. But what if the opposite was true. She would surely expect him to await some interest assayed in that realm. He wouldn’t waste their times with such baseless thoughts.

Looking at him she smiled and went with the most burning question in her mind leaning in over her drink" I want to know ..what its like. I mean does it hurt? do things smell weird? Do you have to be careful when you...."
That last question sent the flames of a blush up her face that had her looking at the table and blinking at her own boldness. He was not a science project and that had been some what rude but her bluntness was both a strength and weakness. She looked at him finally and in her eyes was an apology her shoulders raised in a oops. It wasn't all her fault tho Monica hadn't been intimate with any one in a long while so maybe her curiosity and libido got mixed. She was about to cover her tracks when the waitress came over with their plates.
She went quiet until the woman had left looking over her food like it was the most interesting thing in the world mentally kicking her self. " Look you dont have to answer that last one I .. dont know what made me ask that my mother would box my ears for such horrible table behavior."
Offering him a soft smile, then sipping her drink" But I'm still curious about the what its like to be, so special."
She made it sound like she was just some average human but to her she was, and didn't think there was anything extraordinary about her self.

Samuel took of his drink waiting out both the waitress and his own inclinations. Smiling he raised a hand to shush her apology. He wasn't offended. In fact he was flattered that she would assume he could give voice to such things. Most people could no more tell one the nature of being human than they could repair a nuclear reactor. That was especially true when it came to matters of their experiences of the intimate variety.
Samuel leaner forward resting his elbows on the table. His hands steepled fingertip to fingertip. "Special is a word that is bandied about too easily in this day and age. I would never say special without a clear concise provable example. Lycanthropy sadly doesn't qualify. Different that I would agree to but never special." Samuel nodded as punctuation to his belief.
Sitting back in his seat he carved a bite out of his meal before going on. "As for how it feels... That is something best experienced. It is a scary heart pounding three four hours and not something begun easily as when our emotions are raised so are our needs. In those moments as we are both and beast it means our need for food and sex grow in equal parts exponentially."
He allowed the idea to take root in her mind before moving on. "If anyone is potentially deserving of the special descriptor I would think it would be you."

His speaking of it needing to be experienced at first, had her nod but then the words hit her in a different way and her pulse sped up and eyes widened. She knew that wasn't what he means she was almost sure of it but again this was a precarious conversation. Swallowing her bite of fish, with minimal coughing and a throat clearing. Thinking of the hungriest shed ever been and imagining it possibly doubled or more, then the other need contemplated and lip bitten. That was interesting very much so and she nodded again at him.
Giving him an incredulous look when he said she was special and laughing. " no way that's true, I see it as more a quirk then special but I get what you mean."
Thinking again she chewed and drank and finally thought of another more safe question. " so if I asked you to be sort of an expert for me would you? I mean I've never had a chance to talk to any one with any real knowledge when working a case and it would be amazing to have some one to turn to.. I might even be able to get you some sort of perks for helping me but I dont know till i ask .. Id not even mention names or anything just that i had an expert"
There was that honest good cop face again and she seemed genuinely pleased with her self at having come up with such an awesome thing. Yes distract your self from naughtiness with were-man sex thoughts little Monica because that was a dangerous train of thought and they both knew trains and them were bad news so far.

Samuel considered her raise in pulse. He looked as her pupils dilated a hair. He considered what might possibly could happen. Where that trail could lead. He also chided himself for being a dirty old man. It had been sometime since he had enjoyed the pleasures of co much as touch. It was quite natural for the idea to cross his mind. It would however be less than professional to pursue such a relation. Business. It was always business and had to be to protect her from his world as well as to protect his own sense of self.
Refocusing himself Samuel considered her question as well as the effect his words achieved. Quirking a brow he set back from the table once more. Filling the void of conversation of her request and his thoughts he said, “I didn’t meant to cause you to choke. I speak my mind and it is a surety that you in fact are special or we would not be here."
Having made up his mind he sliced another piece of his steak taking a moment to savor the taste he continued, "Perhaps, it would be better if you don’t ask your superior officers. I have learned it is ofttimes better to offer apologies than ask permissions." Nodding as if he was responding to a question Samuel daubed his mouth as he went on. “What I mean Detective, is I would love to offer you aid and assistance wherever I can. However, I am finding that as much as I find that I can and should trust your discretion, the bureaucracy of the Police administration has proven far less reliable. Between graft, nepotism, corruption, and abuse of power it is a veritable smorgasbord of faults and exploitable flaws. There are far too many people dependent on me and my business to risk anything official.”
He knew she could read the words unsaid and understood his reticence at allowing the police official use of his knowledge and experience. It would mean he’d be outted. It would mean that a layer of his invisibility would be torn away. It would also provide leverage that could be used against him. That couldn’t be allowed. No invisible cages for him nor any tethering of her to him. Not in that sort of light. Her fate would be linked to his. She might stop her ascent based on the results he could provide. She’d be shoehorned by the success he’d be able to provide her. Soon her fellow officers would speak of her derisively. She was marked for the stars and he would help her ascend he however would not help her organization to bury them both.

She listened to him and as he spoke she realized he had a damned good point. There was no reason she needed to tell them anything about where she was getting her information just that it was a reliable source should the need arise. She nodded her accent and then took another bite of her fish " You know your right I hate to say it but not all cops are good cops and alot of them eventually let power go to their head."
So they were in agreement she would give him heads up if she felt it was important to his dealings and she would get help with were related issues and cases if he knew anything with out being dragged into it or dragging her down because of it. It sounded good to her both in theory and practice. She found a napkin and got a pen from the mini wallet thing writing her number for him so he could get in touch. Knowing better then to ask him for his, sliding it over. Then enjoying more time eating and drinking in companionable silence. The food here was pretty awesome she'd been living on subway and salads from a deli near the office.
Finally she looked up at him" So Ive asked what I think I need to at the moment is there anything else you want to ask me ?"
Waiting to see what he would say because maybe it would be really strange or maybe it would be funny or personal who knew?

Taking the napkin he looked at as if it were in greek. It was legible and entirely too nice of a penmanship to ever belong to a cop. He’d read more than his fair share of handwritten police reports. Looking long and hard at it he committed it to memory. Yes he would have loved to hold on to the napkin. He would have loved to be the sort who had thousands of notes and other personal effects from friends, lovers, and family that he cherishingly placed in a shoe box somewhere at the top of his closet. Sadly he was not that sort due the rigors of his dealings. Looking at it once more he removed a lighter from his pocket dipping the smallest corner into his Manhattan he lit it ablaze. It burned painfully slow as the whiskey they used was sorely middling. As the napkin caught ablaze he sat it on the saucer the dinner roll had arrived on. Watching it burn he listened and ate. " Yes, yes there is so much I would love to ask you. But I think I know all there is to know at this juncture of our fellowship. Perhaps our next opportunity we can find out what your favorite color is. Or perhaps what is in fact your favorite cuisine. Or perhaps even better why you hold back from giving voice to some if not most of the thoughts in your head."
Allowing what he’d mentioned to sit there between them Samuel ate a portion more watching the detective. Following the slope of her nose as well as most importantly her eyes. Those shaded windows to her soul. Yes it would be a beneficial arrangement. Yes they could both profit. But there was something more neither was saying and Samuel worried at it a bit. He watched how she ate running down the prey of his thoughts. Yes there was something else there just beyond his grasp. He knew she was smart, attractive and gifted. It was a dangerous condition for him to associate with yet something attracted him to the risk of her. It was uncharacteristic of him yet so intrinsic he would not simply let it be.

She watched him set the napkin a blaze and her eyes widened everything in her said to put it out but by the time her hand moved to the water glass it was out. She just picked it up and took a drink smoothly like that was what she meant to do the whole time. Brow raised but nothing said then at his choice of questions Monica laughed surprised but amused all except the last which had her biting her lip.
"Well the first is blue the second is funny because I grew up in a partially Spanish speaking household eating chuletas and arroz con dule. I had a quinceanera and a sweet sixteen but I love Vietnamese food. Bon mi and Pho that is my favorite with a close second being sushi. My mother thinks Im crazy and tells me I dont have enough hips "
Thinking over the next part she shook her head. " girls are meant to be seen not heard, be pretty and smile nice if they want to get a husband. My abuela never understood why me and my sister insisted on being as tough as the boys..shed tsk and tell us no man will marry you nijita if they think you can beat them up. So to keep my sanity I learned to be blunt but filter my mouth or thoughts at times. hard habit to break I guess."
She knew he was a busy man so mindful of that she ate the rest of her food in quiet finished her drink, and waited to see if he had anything else to say. If not she would thank him for lunch gather her things. Kiss her fingers and put them on his arm as she walked past to leave. Figuring it would be better to split up this time. Noticing Abel and the car now that she knew who to look for and giving him a half smile before she walked three blocks up two over and caught a cab home to shower and change.

Police were as conflicted as every other being walking the earth. Moreso in Samuel’s understanding . they had to remain vigilant even at rest. They were always on even when they were on break they could never truly be considered an average part of the citizenry. He knew this and for all of their efforts their secrets were not that well hidden. No one protected the protectors of the public. It didn’t work the way things were supposed to. As such Samuel had taken the initiative and obtained the detectives address. He had the delivery timed for when she should have arrived home.
As much as he’d wanted to while away the evening he knew he could not monopolize her time. So he allowed her to leave. Sparing a real smile that spoke only to having enjoyed her company. As she made her way home he spoke with Abel and made plans. He would be calling on the detective sooner than he’d expected. He thought on it finding that despite the reason for his contact he was looking forward to it.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
The man paced back and forth in front of the building no one was willing to buzz him up. It was a shame he couldn’t just sit it on the doorstep someone would definitely pick it up. Then he wouldn’t have proof of delivery. Not getting paid he didn’t mind so much. However, what would happen after would. He was specifically told that this delivery was not to be screwed up on pain of death. Who the F&*k talked like that. Serious not to be f&*ked with people was who talked like that. And he didn’t ever want to be on the list of those folks.
Watching the block he spotted a woman moving towards the building. He knew she was a woman from her curves. He didn’t know how cute or fugly she would be so his jones didn’t perk up until she was close enough that he could tell she was heading towards this door. She lived in this building. He might be in look. As she got closer he took a step down the stairs hey miss he called out. I gotsa delivery to make you’d be a doll and let me up? He asked his sincerity in every word. He was desperate. He was desperate enough that he considered maybe pushing in as she unlocked the door. Motioning with the box he pleaded with his eyes.

His aura red agitated red with yellow snaking through it but took no shape. She gave him cop eye and if he didn't notice parts of the cop uniform he was stupid. " Who's it for? I will make sure they get it."
She knew every one in her building because there were only four of them, not liking the energy he was giving off. Arms crossing and not opening the door while she waited for an explanation. Tugging back on her gloves and buttoning her jacket, the bars and patches now clear the badge on her lapel. Blinking at him, jaw tight. Normally she wouldn't intimidate the delivery boy but this one was up to something and she didn't like it not one bit.
She could wait, leaning carefully against the door jamb. Thinking over her lunch and all that had gone on, but trying not to smile because it would ruin her tough cop face.

Ah crap the delivery driver thought as she buttoned her jacket. She was a cop but at least she was willing to help looking at the name on the envelope " Its for an M. Davis..." he said rattling off the address as well. Maybe an official reason for needing to enter the building would sway her doubt in his direction. He tried to make sure he met her eyes. As he’d learned from being on the wrong side of a cop began with not seeming direct enough for them.

"Its your lucky day that's me" She pointed to the name on the badge Davis and smiled holding her hand out for the signature sheet. Eyes still on his face but a little more relaxed now that he told her who it was for. She would take the item from him and once he looked over her signature she would shoo him clearly not even willing to let him inside for no reason. Those cop eyes staring him through again.
Once he left she unlocked the door and walked up one flight unlocking her door. stepping through and locking all the locks behind to be sure especially after that. Her medal was left on the counter shoes kicked off. She'd open it after a shower and change of clothing. Once she was clean and fresh and her uni was hung to go get dry cleaned, a pj pants and tank wearing Monica picked up the box and opened it with a box cutter carefully. When the flaps were open she saw black and blinked. Lifting the first thing out of it wrapped in paper, her eyes widened.
Diamonds were a girls best friend her new friend had gotten her a pretty serious knife in a leg holster. Then spotting the gun holster she got excited having always wanted one of these. The leather was butter soft and it was well made. Well dang, setting that aside she lifted the dress also black and smirked. How he had gotten her size she didn't know but it looked like it would fit. The look on her face was comical, then the last thing was the small box inside was a silver cross with heart pattern. That was what made her blink it was protection against both vampires and were's sort of , was he trying to tell her something or just thought she'd like them?
She let the cool metal slide over her fingers and nodded. Reading his message she laughed softly. That man was something else to be assured, she wasn't sure yet what but he was buying her gifts already and that left her amused but even more curious.
