The New York City Subway is the largest subway system in the world when measured by track mileage, and the fourth-largest when measured by annual ridership. It is the second-oldest subway system in the United States after the rapid transit system in Boston. Life in New York City is so dependent on the subway that the city is home to two of only four 24-hour subway systems in the USA.[The other two being Chicago's red and Blue Line train lines] The city's 24 subway services run through all boroughs except Staten Island, which is served 24/7 by the Staten Island Railway.

No New Posts Kelly Blooms

Kelly Bloom's is located in a previously renovated store front in Manhattans upper east side, he caters to mostly weddings and funerals but loves the every day romance of a bouquet he made with his very own hands. Creme walls with shiny steel shelves and refrigerators full of blooms and flower accessories like vases and baskets. A small well appointed seating area with floral throw pillows on a sage couch is where he talks to his customers for special orders. There is a small kitchen in the back next to an office and it leads up to a loft space where he creates sleeps and lives.

No New Posts Enoteca Maria (Nonna's of the World)

The highest praise a cook can receive is that their meal “tastes just like Grandma’s.” At Enoteca Maria, that applies to every dish that comes to your table. Not because it employs professionally trained master chefs, but because every day literally a different grandmother heads the kitchen.

No New Posts Chinese Scholars Garden

The Chinese Scholar’s Garden, is a recreation of Ming Dynasty Chinese gardens. It was built by 40 Chinese artisans in Suzhou City, and then shipped to the United States. When it opened in 1999, it became the first of its kind in the country.

Made with traditional Chinese construction techniques, nails and glue do not hold anything together, including the building that half-hovers over the lake. Rock formations, a bamboo forest, and a waterfall are meant to inspire the same sort of harmony and peace Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist monks and scholars have sought in similar gardens over the centuries.

Cultural events like live performances are often held amidst the pavilions and bridges. A Koi-filled pond is the cherry on top of the authentically adorned little garden. It is further decorated with paintings, mosaics, calligraphy, and indigenous Chinese plants like rhododendrons and lilacs.

No New Posts Fresh Kills Park

When Fresh Kills was opened, it was labeled as a temporary landfill, yet at its peak, 13,000 tons of garbage was added daily. At that rate, the landfill grew exponentially until it was twelve square miles of household waste. During the 1960s, it was so large that workers navigating the dump had to create new infrastructure to continue getting rid of waste.

By the 1960s, the landfill had become a nightmare, filled with rank odors, feral animals and a rat population that threatened to take over the island. Cleverly, birds were brought in to take care of the rats, and the landfill was deemed a wild bird sanctuary.

In 2009, the “temporary” landfill that had become permanent entered its newest phase of land reclamation a design for a Fresh Kills park was put into motion, and by 2040 it will be finished. The plans will have the size of the park at 2.7 times larger than Central Park.
